    AIR FREIGHT is said to be piling up at Air India's export warehouse at the old airport in Chennai.
    There have been reports of 76 trucks laden with cargo intended for export, ranging from electronic components to perishable vegetables, having to return without being unloaded. The warehouse also has not been accepting all fresh consignments because pending cargo had not been cleared. This has slowed down cargo bookings, reports the Times of India.

  • China tops US as Brazil's biggest trading partner

    CHINA has replaced the United States as Brazil's top trading partner after South American biggest country's Chinese imports increasing 57.7 per cent in the first half of the year.
    In the first six months of 2010, Brazil's global import value soared 43.9 per cent year on year to US$81.3 billion.
    Brazilian deputy trade secretary Fabio Faria said the import surge was sustained by an "accelerated" in GDP, up nine per cent in the first quarter and predicted to rise another 7.3 per cent full year, reported London's Containerisation International.

  • Box and space shortages delay Maersk's peak season surcharge

    MAERSK LINE has postponed the imposition of its record Asia-Europe peak season surcharge (PSS) by 15 days amid reports from forwarders that vessel space and containers are available.
    Maersk postponed its PSS for services from Asia (excluding Taiwan) to northern Europe and the Mediterranean from July 15 until August 1, reports London's International Freighting Weekly.
    An unidentified shipping contact was cited as saying that forwarders were having no problems finding space or containers because volumes had weakened over the last two weeks.

  • China plans Pakistan rail link to Arabian Sea

    CHINA plans to develop a rail link across the Karakoram into Pakistan through the Gilgit-Baltistan region that is part of the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir.
    According to reports from Pakistan, Beijing and Islamabad are likely to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for a feasibility study on building the trans-Karakoram railway line during President Asif Ali Zardari's visit to China, reports Indian Express.
