Wat Mahathat
- Famous for the Buddha head entwined in a Bodhi tree
- Wander through ancient ruins that tell Ayutthaya’s rich history
Fun fact: The temple was destroyed during the Burmese invasion in 1767, leaving hauntingly beautiful ruins.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram
- Restored Khmer-style temple on the Chao Phraya River
- UNESCO World Heritage Site with impressive architecture
Did you know? It was built in 1630 to honour King Prasat Thong’s mother!
Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
- Towering prang and spacious vihara
- Active temple with resident monks
Fun fact: The temple is famous for large reclining Buddha statues and meditation retreats!
Wat Phra Si Sanphet
- Ayutthaya’s most important royal temple
- Famous for three iconic stupas
Did you know? Only monks were allowed inside the main vihara, unlike other temples.
